Meeting Suggestions
- Ice breakers are always fun. Short activities/icebreakers can help some members meet new ones. You can YouTube and google search various ice breakers depending on what your goal is.
- Example 1
Your goal is to have members of different grade levels or cliques meet and interact with other members in the club. You definitely want everyone to feel part of the club, so remember to be inclusive. Since members are shy, you want to slowly break them out of their shell and make them feel comfortable. You can start off by playing an icebreaker called "I love my Neighbor." Everyone stands in a circle and there is one person in the center. The person in the center introduces him/herself and says, "I love my neighbor who______________." He/she completes this sentence with anything that is true about themselves. An example is, "I love my neighbor who likes to eat pizza." Whenever the statement applies to anyone in the circle, those member shave to move to another spot in the circle. The last person to find a spot will remain in the center of the circle to introduce him/herself and the cycle repeats. This can allow members to show a little bit of who they are and for others to be familiar with each other.

- Example 2
To progress and have members be more comfortable, think of a time to have icebreakers that involve more member participation. You can have members pair up with another member they don't know. Give them 1-2 minutes to know each other. Each pair will blow up 1 balloon. When all balloons are tied and members are familiar with their partner, have them place the balloon between them, touching both person's tummy. When an officer says, " Ready, set, GO!," then members hug each other tightly trying to pop their balloon. The pair that pops the balloon first can receive an incentive.- It's nice to have icebreakers to have members get a little bit out of their comfort zone because they'll be able to grow and become more social and involved, but try not to scare them by overwhelming them.
- Example 2
- Officers: Touch base with a new member or friend you meet on a personal level: members are curious about the club. Be sure to not only educate them on what Key Club is about, but also introduce yourself and create a welcoming atmosphere and positive vibes. Remember to be confident and most importantly, be yourself!
- Decorate clothespins and write "Join Key Club in RM___ on Wednesdays Lunch" on them and spread them around campus! This is fun for officers and members to do together! [However, be cautious and courteous]
I hope these resources and suggestions are helpful to recruit the underclassmen to continue Key Club in the future.
